The Sanctuary Fishery is situated in the heart of France, in the Cher region 30 minutes from the town of Bourges, nestled in a lush valley overlooked by a large natural forest. The land is comprised of 45 acres with two lakes of 7 & 15 acres. Previously a nature reserve for 15 years, the Sanctuary Fishery has never been fished before.
The Sanctuary Fishery will appeal to individuals who are enthusiastic & dedicated about their fishing, enjoy their surroundings & appreciate the calm & tranquility of the countryside. We strive to maintain the ambience of the fishery to benefit both the angler and wildlife. The abundance of native wildlife has to be seen to be believed, from deer visiting the waters edge to barn owls hunting in the evening light, the fishery truly lives up to its name.
The largest lake is at the present being used for “growing on” over 400 stunning carp, which in the rich waters are gaining weight at a phenomenal rate, this lake is scheduled to open in 2010.
The 7 acre lake is stocked with over 200 beautiful fully scaled mirrors, commons & high backed leathers, ranging in size from 20lb to 51lb plus, therefore making the fishing truly exceptional.
The smaller lake was drained in late 2005, all fish species other than carp have been removed. We removed all the snags and built only 5 pegs, to create the maximum room and fishing area for each angler to enjoy their fishing and surroundings. There are no “poisson chat” or crayfish present which can be a real nuisance in some French waters.
The Sanctuary Fishery is truly a virgin carp water with the fish in stunning condition. We are open from April to October so the fish are not pressured 12 months of the year, allowing them time to spawn in spring and rest over the winter months.
Our aim is to provide the best customer service possible, breakfast will be delivered direct to your swim, also shopping orders will be taken daily for any fresh foods or sundries you require, so your fishing time is not interrupted. Excellent toilet and shower facilities are provided next to the lake so no need to walk a “mile” for the loo!!! We also drop all your tackle off at your swim, and then return it your vehicle on the day of your departure.
We are based on site 24 hours a day so nothing is too much trouble, we are there for you.
I myself have been an avid fisherman, fish keeper and breeder for the last 25 years, since being first introduced by my father. I can first remember using an old glass rod from the garage with line more suited to sea fishing to catch my first fish, a trout from a small brook close to home. Also the memory of my father taking me float fishing on a mist covered mere is still clearly etched on my mind today.
Being introduced to the art of fish keeping and fishing at such a young age has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and experience and a life long passion to manage my own fishery. I will continue to strive for a fishery that provides stunning fish in perfect health and condition in unsurpassed natural surroundings. My other passion is a true love of nature and will try and encourage a balance between the angler and wildlife, so all can enjoy this special place. I have also travelled the length and breadth of England searching for specimen fish of all species and this has put me on the banks of some of the most pressured waters in the country, to untouched meres and estate lakes with unknown potential.
We hope this gives you an insight into “The Sanctuary Fishery” and look forward to meeting you soon.
