Selby 3 Lakes
Selby, North Yorkshire

selby

Selby Three Lakes was originally dug over 80 years ago, lake 3 became the main carp lake with lakes 1 and 2 being the coarse lakes. In 1992 the decision was taken by the owners and bailiff to create one whole lake out of the three there. 4 cut outs were dug to create the one lake of 12 acres in size. After being a syndicate lake Selby then reverted back into a day ticket water and was quickly established as the North's premier day ticket and to this day it is still held in that regard.

The fish in Selby can only be described as true warriors and each one has its own individuality. With an estimated stock of 15 over the 30lb mark, around 100 over the 20lb mark and in the region of 150 good doubles this isn't a runs water by any stretch of the imagination, but at the same time it shouldn't beat you up too much. Fish come out regularly but like anywhere there will be blanks along the way to the big ones. The named fish are the ones that most want to catch so keep your eye out for the likes of The Male, The Beast or Clarence. Have a look at the gallery and you will see most of the named ones in here to wet your appetite for the possibilities ahead.

Gordon Fowler is the Fisheries Manager of the lake and has a knowledge of the lake and area which only comes with putting the time in and learning the water, and having put 4 nights in a week for over 9 years in the past there is no disputing his experience and knowledge of this unique and feature-rich water. Should anybody need any advice or help be it with fishing or directions then do not hesitate to contact him (number on contacts page).

Finally enjoy your fishing at Selby, please adhere to the rules, make sure you book for night fishing and don't forget to send us the photos and details of your catches, tight lines.

  3. i read these comments before the first time i went and they are completly outdated alot has changed since these comments were made, roger hind is now head bailiff and done loads of work on the place. all the swims have been redone and re woodchipped so they are comftable he has stopped fishing off the island but you are allowed to go on there and bait up. hes stocked it with some new carp but alot of the origanal fish still in there which are getting on in size now. check out there new website and give the pace a try again i think u will be pleasently suprised

  4. Dont believe too much of the script for this lake its all changed from 4 years ago.....This site really needs to be updated....goto www.selby3lakescomplex.com for up to date info and contact details. Roger Hind is now the fisheries manager and he alone now runs the show and its recovering from its day ticket onslaught to being a far better water split between syndicate and day ticket.

  8. something else that i can not believe, i very rarly seen anyone with a floater rod or a zig rig out to the new stagings / pads
Use a decent bait instead of some crap argos / icconomy carp baits boilie
    Try mainline Cell or active8
Try walking round to the stagings and bangin some of hemp / corn in and fish a 15mm+10mm snowman over the top.
The hemp and corn will fetch the bream and tench but these will also fetch the carp to investigate and feed they will.I would lay off the pellets, bream love them too much
If using boilies id use a minimum of 40 round each rod and wouldnt be scared of putting 200 round each rod
Id go for 18mm baits for the feed so the bream dont get as many as the 15ns

  11. night stalker. lol
has it not occured to you that maybe the bream/roach anglers bring in as much revenue as the carp ?
With the winter matches and day ticket anglers
It amazes me how many carpers fish next to the carp park and moan when they blank, i nether see anyone going in gordons kennel 1st

  13. I went to 3 lakes for the first time this week with my 85yr old dad... he caught about 8 or 9 small roach. We had a lovely time...we will definately be going back. Does it occur to anyone...the old saying.." a poor workman always blames his tools"... if you get my meaning! We all have bad days...no need to blame the venue surely?

  15. Croc, well said my man, well said indeed! Selby Lake 1 is not the same as it was, it has gone through some massive changes over the past few years and is still being treated and cared for like an infant, as it is now the lake is "new". The carp are new, stockies added afew years ago and are UNPRESSURED, they are not fished for as hard as the old fish were. If you wanna fish lake 1 be prepared for long long times with not a bite in sight, you have to work hard, do your water craft. You cant just drop a PVA bag on the island and sit back then whinge and moan about it when you blank!

There are a ton of underwater features in this lake, bars, silt, gravel all these the stockies sit on. If you havnt got a marker float out finding them then I hope you do blank to be honest. I live in Selby and last time i fished the lake was afew weeks back, as ive fished it afew times and found my spots, i netted a 12lb mirror and a 8lb bream, i was there 3 hours!

If your going to do a 24/48 hour session, do your ground work, and bring a marker!! Aswell as a spod rod!!! Top tip, these fish live of natural baits for 90% of the time, do the math, you need to get them so interested in your bait that they cant resist it!

Selby is a grogeous lake and if people put the time in then you'd get your rewards but if you only go there with a bait thrown to the island and then come here and slate the place because you blanked then croc was right, take up golf because you have no right fishing!

  16. Now i'm not going to start a full blown slanging match but come on lets get real. A guy supports my comments, adds that its a new water that he's going to give a chance, does a 48hr session, blanks, then calls it worst fishery in UK! Just goes to prove exactly what i said last time about so called carp anglers of modern times.

  17. ive just done a 48hrs on selby 3 lakes ive had more noise off my mobile phone that i had on my bite alarms fishing was not good i will not be going back ever again not if it bwas the last lake in the uk still wouldnt go...

  19. After a break of 16yrs from carp fishing i have returned to a world of many changes. Some for the good, but many for the bad. Including forums in the wrong hands. Unfortunately, someone can now walk into a tackle shop, spend 500quid on readymade everything and call themselve a carp angler, go to a day ticket water for a 48hr session, blank, blame the fishery and tell the world on here. What a joke! My last year in 93 i fished a north yorks syndicate for approx 2000 hours. Result: 12 runs, 3 lake records and considered one of the most successful anglers ever on that water. I lost count of the amount of blanks that i had but as a true carp angler never once blamed the water. A word of advice to some of the new age "so called carp anglers"; Put your gear on ebay and buy some golf clubs. Angling needs as much support that it can get in these current times without the need of idiots trying to put people off based on their own inadequences, inexperience and lack of patience. Selby 3 Lakes is still one of the norths premier waters which i would recommend to everyone else.

  20. recently fished 2 nighter what a waste of money, all talk and nothing more regarding re stock, reading between the lines x wife has bestlake with all good head of carp trying to blag lads with carp talk in my view get rid of masses amount of bream which will fetch good money and re stock with more carp you then may see anglers coming back in 12 to 24 months

  22. trust me there are still tons of pike in there. when the bream spawned they were
    everywhere

(Posted on 2010-06-15 01:04:00 by tangler)
  23. I know all the pike wernt taken out bar 4 - lol
They only electofished 1 meter down in 1 margin, soout of what was taken in those couple of minits, 4 went back into the lake including the 25 lb pike
They lake has hundreds of pike still
I myself fished week after electrofishing and netted 4 upto 19lb and lost 2
It just goes to show how the inexperienced can get there wires crossed - lol

  29. the comments below are correct
i fished 3 times this season and all i caught were bream
i dont mind catching bream but the bream wernt very big either
the surface was black with bream
we never saw a carp on the surface in the whole 3 visits
kind of strange as the bream were up in the top layers
very disapointing and very expensive £20 per night
a word of advise to anyone thinking of fishing there FISH ELS WHERE
    unless you like small bream

  30. Specimen Carp Lake............ NO WAY. I fished this lake for 3 nights along with 4 other friends . all whom are very good carp anglers.. this is a very moderate carp lake living off its old namesake.. it needs the hundreds of tons of bream removing and stocking with carp. all the net talk of been stocked with plenty of carp is rubbish.. i was talking to an angler who was there when they restocked it and he says there were maybe 25 to 30 fish at the most which went in.. The prices are absolutely scandolous for the lake that this is.. i would say this is a good course fishery and nothing more.. if you were planning to fish here DONT ...its maybe worth 10 pounds per 24 hrs at the best .......

(Posted on 2009-09-03 11:12:00 by carpmad)
  31. not enough carp (they say its been re stocked) ??? doubtfull
we had a 48 hour session ,15 small bream all on boilies is just not good enough
sell your bream and lower the price to £5 a night
    because thats all its worth
    no carp in here?

  32. i would like to post my review on selby 3 lakes, witch infact is now quarter of the original size as 3 quarters of the lake is now a syndicate venue and the owner has nothing to do with the other lake, after looking foward to my week of work i was gutted when i arrived at selby 3 lakes to discover the owner has split up with her husband and have divided the lake into 2 as part of the divorce settlement, when the work was undertaken to split the lakes it was decided whatever fish was in each lake stayed there, after talking to the syndicate lads they told me 95% of the carp was in there lake as it was split in the middle of winter and the winter holding spot for the carp was in the furthest spot away from the ticket lake, i feel using the same name as selby 3 lakes is not fair to anyone wanting to spend there hard earned money on what i think is a very understocked lake, i feel the lake is riding on its previous reputation and is very missleading, in the week i was there, there was 1 carp that came out at 5 lb along with shit loads of bream, for 20 pound a night witch is a top asking price for such a understocked lake, the web site and an article i read in crafty carper said 150 carp have been introduced, the balliff and gardener on the syndicate lake told me it was more around 25 and 7 of them died, maybe the advice i was giving was more of to do with one geting one over the other, my opinion is you only have to look at the lakes to tell witch side has had the major cash injection, unfortunatly it was'nt the lake i was on, so selby3lakes do your self a favor, change your name, lower your prices, electronet your lake to get rid of all them annoying bream, and put some more carp in, riding on the reputation of the complex's previous glory is gunner catch up to you because i want be coming back, and the 6 acres your advertising at is more like 3
