The lake.

Carpheaven is a beautiful tree-lined lake of almost 6 hectares (15 acres) located in the Soane et Loire department of France. It is surrounded by woods and pastures grazed by the local white charolais cows. The depth varies from just under 3ft at the shallow end and it gradually gets deeper towards the dam wall where it has depths of up to 8ft with the average of about 5ft. The shallow area, which is an area that the fish love to sunbathe and feed, also has 8 islands and 3 swims.

The main area of the lake has 12 swims, some of which are doubles. The bottom is a sandy/clay which is quite common with many French lakes and there is very little weed. All swims are fishable with normal carp gear.

When new clients pull into the car park and see the lake stretching out before them, at more than 1/4 mile long, they are firstly surprised to see how big it is, secondly, delighted to experience the tranquility and thirdly, amazed that they may have the lake to themselves.

When regulars return they are delighted that they chose Carpheaven in the first place and don't have to search any longer for a suitable venue.

It is difficult to explain how different Carpheaven is to the majority of over-commercialized and over-hyped holiday venues.

Remember, Carpheaven is strictly limited to only 6 anglers on the lake at any time and a maximum of only 90 for the season to ensure that you have a stress-free holiday.

The carp

Carpheaven is stocked with more than 2 tonnes of carp. The majority of fish are over 20 lbs and there are quite a number of fish over 30 lbs with the largest fish caught so far being a mirror of 43 lbs. There are some commons but mostly they are mirrors. Some are the typical French looking fish with few scales but many others are very English looking in their scale patterns.

Facilities

At Carpheaven there is a fully equipped shower-room with an English style toilet, shower and wash basin. In the utility room there are power points for charging batteries etc and also drinking water and hot water on tap, a fridge-freezer and a washing-up sink for your use.

I have fished many lakes in France both French and English run and I have had to put up with some horrendous conditions at times, blocked or non-existent toilets, coin-operated showers that are a 15 minute drive away or metal sheds in the middle of a muddy field.

I know how important it is to have fully functioning and clean facilities. There are no hidden extra charges here.

All anglers will have their gear transported to their chosen swim on arrival using the trailer and help is always on hand if a change of swims is needed.

There are 2 rooms available to rent in the house, 1 double and 1 twin, for non-anglers or those who do not want to bivvy-up. All the facilities are located at the lakeside house where you will also find the barbecue area and the car park. Rubbish sacks are provided free of charge and I will take full bags away as and when required.

The village of Cronat is only 5 minutes away and has a bar, butchers, bakers, pharmacy and a small village supermarket. The town of Bourbon Lancy is about 15 minutes away and has 3 larger supermarkets, a health spa, bars, tabacs and other shops and restaurants.
